Should We Condition on the Number of Points When Modelling Spatial Point Patterns?

چکیده

We discuss the practice of directly or indirectly assuming a model for number points when modelling spatial point patterns even though it is rarely possible to validate such in because most pattern data consist only one pattern. therefore explore possibility condition on instead fitting and validating process models. In simulation study with different popular models, we consider validation using global envelope tests based functional summary statistics. find that conditioning will some statistics lead more narrow envelopes thus stronger can also be useful correcting conservativeness testing composite hypothesis. However, other statistics, makes little no difference points. When estimating parameters conclude mathematical computational reasons, convenient assume distribution

Modelling Spatial Point Patterns in R

This paper describes practical techniques for fitting stochastic models to spatial point pattern data using the statistical language R. The techniques are demonstrated with a detailed analysis of two real datasets. We have implemented the techniques as a package spatstat in the R language. Both spatstat and R are freely available from the R website [19]. Sections 2 and 3 introduce the spatstat ...

When do we have the power to detect biological interactions in spatial point patterns?

1. Determining the relative importance of environmental factors, biotic interactions and stochasticity in assembling and maintaining species-rich communities remains a major challenge in ecology. In plant communities, interactions between individuals of different species are expected to leave a spatial signature in the form of positive or negative spatial correlations over distances relating to...

When Should We Use Natural Features?

Some features of computer programs can make the programs easier to use by enabling users to interact with them in the familiar ways they interact with other people. Including these features is hard, however, and doing a good job at it is even harder. We present some of these features, and compare the pros and cons of including them in a computer program. We conclude with criteria designers can ...
